Introducing our new and improved solar mats with Crocskin®.
Hard Korr’s next generation solar mats are on their way! Our revised design is even more durable, allowing our mats to withstand extreme heat and survive the rigours of the toughest Outback travel without skipping a beat.
Many of you will probably already know that our folding solar mats have caused quite a stir since they were introduced.
Following an intense 12-month research and development process, we first introduced our solar mats to the market in June last year, and they quickly became our fastest-selling product in history. People all around Australia enjoyed powering their campsite for free using our ultra lightweight, high-output mats.
In November, after selling out three shipments in quick succession in Australia, we unveiled them to the world at the prestigious SEMA Show, and were rewarded with two Global Media Awards for best new product.
While all this was going on, behind the scenes we’ve been working on making our solar mats even better, and we’re now proud to announce that our first shipment of the next generation is on its way!
Our 200w model will arrive on 15th February, with the 150w and 100w variants to be released in the coming months.
So what’s the difference?
The most noticeable change is on the surface of the cell. We’ve coated the cells in an exclusive polymer compound which imparts incredible impact, scratch, heat and UV resistance, without sacrificing efficiency or flexibility. We’ve called this coating Crocskin® due to its distinctive rough texture.
We’ve also improved our baseboard with the addition of a strong, lightweight fibre material to give added durability.
Best of all, they’re still hundreds of dollars cheaper than equivalent models from our competitors. See how we compare»
Finance is available!
Don’t forget we have ZipPay interest-free finance available! You can get instant approval from inside our checkout screen and it takes only a minute or two. Minimum payments are only $40 per month and all you need is a mobile number and a Facebook account!

Frequently Asked Questions
What separates a Hard Korr folding solar mat from a cheap eBay model?
Mostly it comes down to quality of materials and manufacturing. We specify genuine SunPower® solar cells for optimum efficiency and lifespan, Crocskin® polymer cell armour for ultimate cell protection, and extra-tough 1680D canvas for durability. Our panels are manufactured to a very high standard including strong stitching and careful wiring. That’s why we are able to offer a massive 5-year warranty!
Why SunPower® cells?
Quite simply, SunPower make the best solar cells currently available in the market. They are much stronger, more efficient and more durable than cheaper alternatives. You can find out more about them here.
Do I have to use the included controller?
You must always use a controller between the solar panel and your battery, but if you have your own solar controller (e.g. built into a camper trailer or RV) you can use that instead. We include an Anderson plug connector in the box.
How do I position my solar mat?
You can place your solar mat anywhere it receives direct sunlight. This might be on your bonnet, windscreen, roof or on top of your awning. You will experience a small increase in output if you are able to angle the panels 45° to the sun but in practice this is not mandatory for good performance.
If one cell is shaded or blocked, does the whole panel stop producing electricity?
No. Our mat is designed with bypass diodes to ensure that if one cell is not producing power the rest of the cells are unaffected. This is another difference between a Hard Korr panel and cheap eBay type models.
Can I leave my mat out in the weather?
Yes, Hard Korr solar mats are designed to withstand rain and even hail. However, your panel will not generally produce much electricity during inclement weather so we recommend you bring it inside at these times.
Which panel do I need for my setup?
Start by finding out the total current draw of all the equipment you wish to use. Multiply this figure by the number of hours the equipment is generally used to get the total amp hours consumed. Solar panels can generally provide their stated output for 8 hours per day, so multiply the stated output by 8 hours to find out how many amp hours your solar mat can provide. Here’s a worked example:
- You use a Hard Korr 5-bar camp kit for 5 hours per day (3A x 5h = 15Ah)
- You use a fridge 24 hours per day that draws 2A (2A x 24h = 48Ah)
- Total consumption = 63Ah
- Solar panel output required = 63Ah / 8 = 7.875A
- A Hard Korr 200w solar mat is rated at 11.3A, and so would provide sufficient power with a comfortable buffer in the event of cloudy weather etc.
